November Playtime

Homes and Houses

November Playtime (Aistear) was all about "Homes and Houses". To prepare for our playtime we listened to the story of "The Three Little Pigs". Niamh brought in a new book about the three little pigs called " Pigs might Fly" which was a sequel to the first story. It was a really great story!!
We talked a lot about the types of houses we all live in and the types of homes you can see in Killeshandra. We learned about the dangerous items that can be found in our homes. In the creative area we built houses for the little pigs using straw, lollipop sticks and cardboard bricks.Below is a selection of photographs of the great fun we had during our Hour of Play.

Science Week

As part of science week we did some experiments in class. Here is one of them.

Did you ever wonder how plants “drink” their water? Plants don’t have any mouth but like us they do get thirsty. Let’s investigate how plants drink water.
Meet our scientists.

You will need
jar or glass
water
food colouring
flower
a stick of celery

Here is a diagram of  plant parts

We put some flowers in plain water and the petals stayed white.

We then put some flowers in water with red food colouring. Can you see the difference? Our white flowers are turning red.

We also put some celery in water with red food colouring. The leaves and stalks turned red.
This is because the coloured water from the glasses has moved up through the thin tubes in the plants.
We hope you enjoyed our experiment.

Maths Week Fun!!

We celebrated Maths Week  (10th - 18th October) in Junior and Senior Infants by taking part in lots of fun activities.
We are learning all about our 2D Shapes so we went on a shape treasure hunt in our school yard.
We played fun board games and games on the tablets with the 6th class children.
Niamh in 6th class helped us do Shape Sponge Painting.
Here are some pictures of us celebrating Maths Week.
