25th May - 29th May

Hello again boys and girls. I hope you and your families are healthy and well and that you enjoyed last week’s activities.

I am so pleased with the huge amount of learning that is going on at home.  Thank you all for sending me pictures of your fantastic work. You are all doing a great job.

There are lots more activities for you to do again this week. I hope you enjoy them. As always, please just do what you are able to do, there is no pressure to complete everything on the list.

I am looking forward to seeing some more of your amazing work next week.
Keep helping Mammy and Daddy, be kind and caring to each other. Get plenty of fresh air and don’t forget to keep washing those hands often.

Take care,

Mrs. O’Neill

You could engage your child with the following reading strategies to encourage them.

Choral Reading. You read at the same time.

Echo Reading.   You read first and your child echoes the same sentence or paragraph you just read.

Act It Out.      You act out the story together or pretend to be characters in the story and read the lines.

Literacy – Procedure writing for Senior Infants.
(Junior Infants you can try if you wish.)

Write a procedure (a list of steps) about planting seeds or making buns or something that you have made at home. Use the framework below to help you – click for bigger version. You can write it in your copy if you prefer.

Game Time!

Use your Tricky words to play the following games –

Tricky word reveal- This game requires two pieces of paper. Write a word from the list on a piece of paper. Then cover the word completely with the other piece of paper. Slowly reveal the first letter of the word.  Ask your child if they can guess what the word will be from looking at the first word.

Tricky Word Hunt – You could write a few of these words on pieces of paper and stick them up in a room in the house.  Call out one of the words and you child can go and search for it.

I Spy – Similar to the ‘Tricky Word Hunt’ You could have a few words stuck up in a room. Tell your child ‘I spy a word beginning with W. I spy a word ending in g’ etc.

Tricky Word Toss – This is a game that can be played outside but you could also play it indoors. Write a few tricky words on pieces of paper. Spread them out on the grass. Ask your child to throw something soft e.g a ball onto a word. They then run to the word that they have landed on and read it.

Maths – This week’s maths contains some Money activities. Here are some hands-on activities that may help your child.
·         Show the following coins to your child – 1c,2c,5c,10c,20c.
·         Examine the size, colour, similarities and differences between these coins.
·         Can your child name them?
·         Can you play matching games with the coins?

Replace the missing word with each of the items you chose for the experiment.

Carry out your own experiment to see what floats or sinks

1   Fill a bowl with water and find a variety of objects in your home or outside – these could be a ball, a brick, cutlery, coins, lego piece. Whatever you can find.

Before you start predict whether the item will float or sink.  Experiment with each item one by one. As you place them in water, watch what happens.
